I am back…somewhat http://jasonshasteendesign.com/blog/2009/12/14/good-news-i-am-back-somewhat/ http://jasonshasteendesign.com/blog/2009/12/14/good-news-i-am-back-somewhat/#comments Tue, 15 Dec 2009 05:12:32 +0000 admin http://jasonshasteendesign.com/blog/?p=413 Well….I have good news!  I am alive…despite my absence from the DAP as of late.  I did decide however to make a post again.  I will understand if my membership is now under review from the high council though.  A few weeks prior, we were given the them of music.  I thought it was interesting that the first song to draw inspiration from was Pyramid Song by Radiohead.  I can vividly remember the summer when this song and related video came out.  I absolutely loved the music video for this song and made a sketch that later became a painting that summer of 2001, I believe it was.  So here is the sketch and I may find an image of the painting.  I unfortunately sold the original painting at a yard sale awhile back….but a metal sculpture developed from this same string of inspiration and is featured in my studio work.

]]> http://jasonshasteendesign.com/blog/2009/12/14/good-news-i-am-back-somewhat/feed/ 0 My First Comic Book Class 1994 http://jasonshasteendesign.com/blog/2009/10/13/my-first-comic-book-class-1994/ http://jasonshasteendesign.com/blog/2009/10/13/my-first-comic-book-class-1994/#comments Wed, 14 Oct 2009 04:36:38 +0000 admin http://jasonshasteendesign.com/blog/?p=228 comic book class 94 cover_blogThis is the cover from a collection of comics created by students at a Comic Book Class back in 1994.  I’m guessing it was offered at a community center probably in Arlington.  Pretty crazy, considering the fact that was 15 years ago and I was only 12 at the time.  I tried tracking down the teacher on google but no real luck.  I remember going to this class and not really being terribly social at the time.  I bet I didn’t even say a word in the class, but I am so glad I had such an awesome Mom that even thought to take me that summer to something so cool.  That was ironically enough probably the peak of my interest in comics and illustrating and it’s not until now that I am as excited as I was then about comics and story telling.

I enjoyed the fact that he misspelled the name of my comic though.  Maybe “Tim Knight” would have been much better, maybe not.  I do remember the kid that was listed at the top though, probably because he was the one who drew the most pages.  I’m pretty sure he was older and understood contrast and serious story telling much better than I did at the time, granted he was probably only 16 or 17…..some real mature content I’m sure.

I can tell even then that I lacked the ability to rightly draw out the dialogue and set the right pace of the action.  Everything was fast and action packed…good for a low budget indie film?

Man…that was a kick butt action sequence….good job 12 year old me!  Not entirely sure why I decided to have the title panel at the very end, I guess for build up?  Anyways, I would like to think that I was allot more creative and loose with my arrangement back then.  Might even be fun to color this series, or even redraw it now…hmmm?

comic book class 94 back cover_blogThis was the back cover of the comic book collection.  It was actually the first time I ever drew something straight to a computer using a mouse.  I can vividly remember the fascination of using my Aunt’s computer to make a picture without drawing.  I’m pretty sure I used some kind of Paint program, but it was on an old school mac.

Anyways, this is the first of many entries featuring artwork from my childhood….hope you enjoyed it half as much as I did!
